Bears Fall to Bombers 2-1 in Keevin Cup Matchup

The Fond du Lac Bears fell to rival West Bend 2-1 Saturday night in the Keevin Cup.

Fond du Lac, WI - The West Bend Bombers took home the Keevin Cup Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the Fond du Lac Bears.

David Schlicting's even-strength goal with 3:54 remaining got the Bears on the board, and cut the deficit in half.

The Bears would pull the goalie, but couldn't get the game-tying tally in time, despite a chance as time expired.

After a scoreless first frame, the Bombers grabbed the first lead of the game with 11:46 in the second period. They would add their final goal 1:35 into the third period.

Bears goalie Christian Blick turned aside 26 shots in the losing effort, while on the other side of the rink, Bombers netminder Bill Sias stopped 38 of the 39 shots he faced.

With the victory, the Bombers are the KeevinĀ Cup champions two years in a row.

On Friday night, the Bears go their season started with a 5-4 victory over the Fox Cities Ice Dogs in a non-league game.

Up next for the Bears will be a pair of non-league games November 2nd and 3rd, both at home.

On November 2nd, the Bears will get their first shot at redemption, when they host the Bombers again for a non-league contest. On Saturday, November 3rd, the Bears will take on a team of players from the new Interstate Hockey League, based out of Detroit, MI. Both games start at 8 PM at the Fond du Lac Blue Line Family Ice Center. Single game tickets are $5, or fans can purchase a season pass for $50.
